ACCUPLACER Placement Testing




ACCUPLACER is a suite of tests that quickly, accurately, and efficiently assesses reading, writing, math, and computer skills. It is impossible to fail this test since the measures simply indicate placement and are used to recommend courses for enrollment. Who must take the tests?

All new students must take the ACCUPLACER. However, recent SAT and/or ACT exam scores (less than three (3) years old) can be used to measure preparedness. Additionally, extenuating circumstances, such as a particularly strong SAT score taken more than three (3) years ago, can be discussed with your academic advisor.

How can I get my test results?

You have the option of receiving a printed copy of your test results and course recommendations at the end of your testing session. Cut-off scores, indicating prerequisite score requirements, can be found by clicking here. Your advisor will be happy to assist if you have additional questions about course enrollment eligibility.

Will I be allowed to retake the tests if I am unhappy with my scores?

Retaking the exam is rarely encouraged, since our team works with you to identify the best plan for your educational needs. We value your input regarding your goals, so if you believe the test scores do not accurately reflect your academic aptitudes, you should arrange to meet with your advisor to discuss course enrollment possibilities.

How much does it cost to take the ACCUPLACER?

Students attending Iḷisaġvik College will not be charged to take the ACCUPLACER exam on the Iḷisaġvik College campus. However, distance learning students may incur a cost if the exam is taken at an institution charging a fee for the exam. Please contact your advisor to inquire about taking an exam via distance.
