UTQIAĠVIK (BARROW), AK (November 23, 2020) – Iḷisaġvik College has announced the COVID-19 Plan for the Spring 2021 Semester. Iḷisaġvik continues to be committed to the safety of our students, staff, faculty and community members. The North Slope Borough continues to extend emergency orders and Iḷisaġvik is actively communicating with local and regional entities to ensure the maximum health and safety possible.
Instruction Status
- Academic classes: Will be delivered via distance delivery.
- Vocational Education: Classes will be in-person, limited number of students to maintain social distancing. Portions of classes may be offered via distance delivery.
- Industrial Safety: Village in-person Instruction only upon request from the community. Classes are otherwise offered via distance delivery.
- CDL/Heavy Equipment: In person, limited number of students to maintain social distancing. Portions of classes may be offered via distance delivery to limit in-person, hands on time. Class will be held if circumstances permit students to earn their license.
- WFD Classes: Offered via distance delivery if possible. Any limited in-person instruction to be determined on case-by-case. Implementing protective measures.
- Adult Education/GED: Distance Delivery available. Limited to one-on-one tutoring sessions (Utqiaġvik and Villages). LRC use by appointment and proctor testing via Pearson Vue by appointment only.
Students
- Registration is now open online, via email and Zoom for guided assistance. For additional support and to make a one-on-one appointment, email registration@ilisagvik.edu or call Admissions at 907-852-1754.
- Laptops & Technology available for checkout. Visit our application online.
- Internet stipends will be available for Spring 2021 semester. Visit our application online.
- COVID-19 Student Relief will be available for Spring 2021 semester. Visit our application online.
- Distance Delivery Orientation will be provided to all students for the Spring 2021 Semester.
- Internships will be virtual, with an in-person option on a case by case basis, with President approval.
Dormitories
- Closed for semester-long students
- Available to short term training students with a max of 10 students on a case-by-case basis. Potential Dorm residents will be vetted by the Dean of Students. A list of recommended residents will be forwarded to the President for review and approval.
- WFD will provide meals to short term dorm students as the SSC Residential Center kitchen will be closed to all students.
- FAQs will be provided to all dorm students and COVID-19 protocols must be followed. This document outlines the arrival process for testing and clearance.
Campus
- Learning Resource Center & Browerville Center Open by Appointment – Appointments will be virtual, but may be in- person socially distanced for specific needs
- The Cafeteria will remain closed for the Spring 2021 semester. Review in April for summer 2021.
- The Quarantine Site will be the staff wing of the dorms.
- Bookstore will be closed to the public but will remain operational; orders will be mailed or delivered in Utqiaġvik with contactless delivery and is currently testing an option to communicate/purchase online.
- Public Access Monday-Friday 12-4pm. Outside of those hours, Iḷisaġvik employees are available by appointment
- Door 5 of Building 360 will be unlocked and accessible
- Visitors must sign in and are required to answer COVID-19 related questions
- Buildings 361, 362, 363, 364, 365, 366 are closed to the public and locked but accessible by appointment
- Visitors will be asked for a temperature check, pending (threshold 100.4)
- Van Service: will run as necessary, coordinating with classes being held. Face coverings must be worn (masks will be available upon request). Refusal to wear a mask will result in not being permitted to use van transportation and the number of passengers will be limited per run for distancing and safety. The Iḷisaġvik Van will be cleaned between runs.
