This month’s Student Spotlight is on Myrna Sarren! Myrna is not only a full-time student, she is also a hunter’s wife, mother to three children, and works full time.
Where are you from?
What are you studying at Iḷisaġvik College?
I am studying to complete the A.A. General Studies program and the A.A. Allied Health program.
What made you decide to enroll in classes at Iḷisaġvik?
Encouragement from other college students to go forth with higher education.
What are your educational goals?
There is a diverse amount of knowledge available, which made it hard for me to choose which direction I want to go in; everything is just so interesting. I want to take in as much education I can from Ilisagvik College. Learning is a fun experience and you also get to meet new friends.
What are your hobbies when you aren’t studying or working?
Camping and traveling with my family.
What advice do you have for people thinking about signing up for classes?
Have a positive attitude. If you are frustrated with class work, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Keep a picture in the back of your mind, of yourself holding that degree at your graduation. All of your studying and hard work will make that picture become real. If I can do it, you can too!
