UTQIAĠVIK (BARROW), AK (December 13, 2019) – Barrow Mechanical, located in Utqiaġvik, Alaska, has generously matched Pick.Click.Give donations given to Iḷisaġvik College, Alaska’s only tribal college, for two years in a row.
First in 2018 and then in 2019, Barrow Mechanical matched donations that Alaskan residents contributed to Iḷisaġvik College from their Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) via the Pick.Click.Give program. Pick.Click.Give is a program that allows PFD beneficiaries to donate to various nonprofit entities across the state in increments of $25. Barrow Mechanical, a residential plumbing and heating business in Utqiaġvik, is owned and operated by Robert and Florence Alred.
The generosity of Barrow Mechanical and Robert and Florence Alred means that in 2018 and 2019, all donations through the Pick.Click.Give program were doubled. Thus, a total of $31,000 was given to Iḷisaġvik College and allocated to the Iḷisaġvik College Foundation to support the College’s sustainability. Barrow Mechanical individually gave $7,800 in 2018 and $7,700 in 2019. Iḷisaġvik College is honored to have a local business match its Pick.Click.Give donations. Every dollar helps support tribal higher education, which is essential to our North Slope communities and to individual students’ future success as leaders, business owners, innovators, and workforce participants.
President of Iḷisaġvik College, Dr. Pearl Brower, is appreciative of Barrow Mechanical’s support, and said “Barrow Mechanical’s generosity helps empower our students to pursue an education that will shape their future. We are so pleased to have had Barrow Mechanical as a partner these past two years. Their matching of Pick.Click.Give donations has augmented the power of Alaskans giving to nonprofits, and the $15,500 they have donated is both generous and impressive.”
Iḷisaġvik College is grateful to Barrow Mechanical for its two-year Pick.Click.Give matching donations. On December 13, 2019, Iḷisaġvik College will honor Barrow Mechanical at its Board of Trustees meeting, to which the public is invited to attend. Quyanaqpak (thank you very much) to Barrow Mechanical for supporting tribal higher education.
